FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Short answer…No! Here at Tall Tails any and all skill levels are welcome. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or brand new to fly fishing we will tailor the trip to best suit your needs

  • Absolutely! Here in southern Appalachia we are fortunate enough to be able to fish year-round! While some of our fisheries are more seasonal in nature, namely our Trophy Wade trips, we should be able to accommodate your timing and find happy fish somewhere! We are asked all the time when our ‘best’ fishing is but that’s all dependent on how you define the word! Are you looking for big fish, many fish, different species, exciting methods? All of these factors play a role in shaping our fishing trips to your priorities!

Trout float trips are typically best in North Carolina between October and June while float trips in Georgia can be productive year-round but particularly so in the summer.

Trophy trips are dependent on some cooler weather and are a best bet from October through May

Species like shoal and smallmouth bass, striped bass and others are seasonal and can give us good opportunities spring through summer

  • Most people associate fly fishing with trout but in reality we can fly fish for a plethora of species! Locally we have rainbow, brown and brook trout, smallmouth, spotted, shoal, hybrid and striped bass, as well as car, walleye and a few others to boot!

  • We suggest bringing a pair of polarized sunglasses, a couple layers of clothing, a rain jacket, and food / beverages suited for the duration of the trip

  • While you are more than welcome to bring any personal gear on your trip Tall Tails can provide you with any and all necessary fly fishing gear upon request

  • Your guide will contact you in the week leading up to your trip and will tell you where to meet based on current conditions

  • For our trophy trout fishing we will fish either in Clarkesville, Georgia on the famed Soque river or in Ellijay, Georgia on Mountaintown creek. By fishing both of these locations we are capable of better serving clients on either side of North Georgia.

For our float trips we most often will fish the Toccoa river outside of Blue Ridge, Georgia or the Tuckasegee river in North Carolina.

We are thrilled to have clients who like to fish in out of the way places or for more unique species and we will always strive to meet any requests you may have. We are capable of also pursuing striped bass, smallmouth bass, shoal bass, redeye bass, carp, walleye and myriad other species for those intrepid anglers!
