TROUT Float Trip

HALF DAY (4-5 Hours) / 1 or 2 anglers ($350)

FULL DAY (6-8 Hours) / 1 or 2 anglers ($450)

Tall Tails is proud to offer float trips on various rivers in our area! By fishing out of our 13ft purpose-built fly fishing raft we are able to cover massive portions of our rivers in excellent comfort. We currently offer these float trips on the Tuckasegee river in North Carolina as well as the Toccoa tailwater. As always, we endeavor to fit the trip to match your own unique desires so if you have something specific in mind please don’t hesitate to ask! These trips are a great way to see the surrounding area, observe native wildlife and fish beyond the sometimes crowded confines of the public access points. A large YETI cooler is on board loaded with waters and plenty of room for whatever else you decide to bring for yourselves. On these trips you will need a North Carolina or Georgia fishing license with a trout stamp if in Georgia (contact us if you need assistance purchasing), hat, polarized sunglasses and any snacks or food for the day. These trips are a lot of fun for both beginning and more advanced anglers. We can accommodate two people per float trip and often times couples with non-angling partners prefer this trip as it remains a great way to see the rivers and enjoy the experience.

Trophy wade trip

Half day(4-5 hours)

1 angler ($350) / 2 anglers ($475)

Full day (7-8 hours)

1 angler ($450) / 2 anglers ($575)

On our trophy trout wading trips we have the expectations for landing fish much larger than those typically found in publicly accessed water. These trips are great for testing out tackle and new flies as we know where these fish are and how to catch them! Though this is primarily a quality over quantity trip, we can realistically hope for multiple hook ups on even a slow day. These trips are great for both the beginner hoping to catch their first trout and for more experienced anglers hoping to put their tackle and tactics to the limit.

We will lead trophy trips either in Clarkesville, Georgia at the famous and beautiful Fern Valley located on the Soque river or in Ellijay, Georgia at a remote stretch of Mountaintown creek. With these two locations available to us we are able to cater to a wider geographic region and even shape the trip exactly the way you desire!

Public Wade Trip

HALF DAY(4-5 HOURS)

1 ANGLER ($250) / 2 Anglers ($300) / 3 Anglers ($350)

We cut our teeth as young anglers fly fishing Georgia’s public access streams. With the help of Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources, many of our rivers and streams maintain large numbers of trout throughout the year. If you’re lucky you may even come across some larger holdover fish (those that have survived multiple seasons in the river and grown to a larger size) or maybe a wild trout (one not raised in a fish hatchery) which are particularly notable for their flamboyant coloration. These trips offer anglers a great opportunity to learn and develop new strategies for catching Rainbow, Brown and even the occasional Brook trout in our local waters.

BASS FLOAT TRIP

HALF DAY (4-5 Hours) / 1 or 2 Anglers ($400)

Full Day (6-8 Hours) / 1 or 2 anglers ($500)

Here in Georgia and North Carolina we are lucky to be able to fish for a variety of bass species during the spring and summer months on many of the same rivers we guide for trout. While still operating out of our 13ft raft you’ll have a chance at catching Smallmouth bass, Spotted bass, Shoal bass and even Striped bass depending on the location and time of year. Throw in added bonuses like longnose gar, common carp and redeye bass, these trips are a ton of fun for catching a plethora of species! These trips are a great way to keep the fly rod off the shelf during the summer all while enjoying the outstanding river views from the comfort of a raft.

DOCK LIGHT TRIP

1 ANGLER ($325) / 2 ANGLERS ($400)

In the reservoirs of North Georgia an epic fishery lies hidden that locals whisper about but rarely share the details of… It’s a fishery where short sight casts to large, powerful fish aren’t just possible but are probable! Greatest of all perhaps, the best fishing is after dark leaving you a full day to prepare yourself mentally for the epic fishing ahead! I’m speaking of course of the docklights that are sprinkled throughout North Georgia lakes where tremendous catches of striped bass, hybrid bass, monster largemouth and spotted bass lie in wait for the intrepid angler! This fishing trip is not for the faint of heart as it is frequently quite cold out on the water after dark. If, however, you have some basic fly fishing abilities and are ready to put your determination and skills to the test, this may just be the perfect trip for you!

Trips typically last approximately four hours and include instruction both beforehand and on the water. The fishing itself is not necessarily very technical but it does require some foreknowledge of basic fly fishing techniques. We will be fishing off of a stable fly fishing skiff but with the inherent lack of light this can be somewhat disorienting for first timers. We will have all gear prepped and ready for you but you may of course bring your own. We recommend 8 weight rods with intermediate sink tip lines and a minimum of 20lb tippet. Prime season is Thanksgiving through April
